* You are not restricted to 300 words and 4 images per web page but each 300 words or part thereof constitutes a new page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Website costs can be broken down into three parts:
a) Website Construction – from the most simple to more complex sites
b) Domain Name Registration – annual renewal fee (this is your unique ‘www’ address)
c) Website Hosting – annual renewal fee (the rent you pay for your ‘space’ on the internet)

If you are having business cards printed I strongly recommend that you register your domain name beforehand. I had an instance where a client had their business cards printed first only to find that the domain name they had printed on their cards was already registered with someone else.

Since every website is unique, having different design elements and functionality, the exact cost for a custom website will vary with each client. Websites are individually tailored to the client’s requirements and priced according to the features requested and the complexity of the work required.
The best thing to do is to arrange an obligation free consultation with me to discuss your website. I will then be able to give you an estimate of how much your site will cost.
Once I have received all of your content I will provide you with a firm quote which will be valid for 30 days.

There are two recurring annual costs:
a) Website Hosting
b) Domain Name* Registration

Prices will vary depending on your chosen domain name and the anticipated volume of visitors to your website.

Please note these costs are additional to my quote.

Domain name and hosting need to purchased before I commence to build your website.

If you already have purchased your domain name and hosting, or wish to purchase these elsewhere, that’s fine. Just provide me with the supplied logins and passwords from your hosting company and I will proceed to build your website on your chosen website host’s server.

An ABN is required for all .au domains.

A single page website can be set up in 2 – 3 days.
Websites that contain from 4 to 12 pages take up to 3 weeks to complete.

There are many features that can be incorporated into your website. Just ask.
If you see a feature that you like on a website just note down the URL so you can show it to me and I will let you know if it can be implemented on your website.

I will never know your business better than you do, so preparing the content is something that you will need to do. However, I can give you advice on how to structure your content for search engine suitability.

Writing for the web is different to writing a story. Attention spans online are much shorter and your paragraphs need to reflect this. For best results it is best to keep paragraphs short (2-4 sentences). Your content should be engaging and informative.

High quality images bring a website to life. Try to budget for professional photography. High quality images will make a huge difference to the look of your site. Twelve professional images are better than fifty amateur snapshots. However, if you are supplying your own photos, you should use a camera which can take images at a minimum resolution of 10 megapixels. The majority of your images should be in landscape format. Alternatively, I can source high quality stock images for you for a small extra charge, or come out and take the photos for a fee.

You can use a combination of methods to update your web site:

  • Do the updates yourself using the built in Content Management System. (instructions provided) The user interface is similar to Microsoft Word.
  • if the change is more involved or requires new design input you may want to ask me to do it for you and this would fall under the standard hourly charge.

Skills which may be required to do the updates yourself:

  • Cutting, copying and pasting text
  • Bulleting and numbering
  • Organising files and folders
  • Organizing information in a logical structure
  • Locating files and folders on your computer
  • Formatting text
  • Saving a file to a specific location

No need to purchase any software, and the changes are instantaneous. Self editing of your website gives you the freedom to edit, omit, or change almost any information or image on your website at any time, all at your fingertips.

Responsive Design Websites
Responsive Web Design is about using CSS and HTML web code to resize, hide, shrink, enlarge, or rearrange the content on a web page to make it look good, and be easy to use on any screen whether it be a desktop, tablet or mobile phone. Google now uses a mobile-friendliness algorithm to reward websites that are fully optimized to be responsive with a higher ranking, and penalises those that are not, making it almost necessary to invest in responsive design.
